Additional Information
for Athletes
Below is some
very brief information for less experienced athletes. These do not constitute the rules. The
competition will be run in accordance with the 2011 Pentathlon GB rulebook, a
copy of which is available to download from www.pentathlongb.org.
We attempt to run all events as closely to time as possible,
complications can, on occasion, cause delays.
To aid us in keeping to time please ensure you are ready for each event.
In particular, it is your responsibility to present yourself to the collecting
ring with your horse at your published time. If you are not present at the
published time, we will not wait for you and this will result in you having
less time to prepare the horse for the course.
Each event requires appropriate and adequate equipment which is
certified to the relevant safety standards.
Ride
Competitors must have a riding hat which has been certified to the
relevant safety standard and must be correctly fitting.
Competitors must present themselves to the collecting ring official
before mounting their horse correctly dressed for the competition. Please note
that riding boots with a heel must be worn and hoodies
will not be considered correct dress. Jewellery is not permitted while any
rider is on their horse. The collecting ring official may deduct points and
insist that the competitor finds appropriate clothing before they will be
permitted to mount the horse.
Spurs may be used only with the owner’s approval. If a rider is considered to be unsafe and
likely to become a danger to other riders or horses they will be withdrawn at
the discretion of the owner of the horse or the collecting ring official. The ride official’s decision is final.
Fence
Please ensure that all your fencing equipment adheres to modern
standards and is in good condition. No
fencer will be allowed to start without proper fencing breeches and long socks
or a plastron. All stitching must be in
good condition and no rust can be present.
Although larger institutions may operate a ‘weapon pool’ system, it is
highly advisable to have at least two weapons per competitor as athletes should
present themselves to the piste with a working weapon
and have access to a spare nearby.
Please ensure that weapons are tested and able to pass both weight and
gauge.
Run and Combined Event
The run course will
take place on a running track. Spikes will not be allowed for the combined
event because competitors will need to enter into the cricket schools for the
shoot phase. Please note that due to the limited space in the cricket schools, spectators
are requested not to enter into the hall while the competition is in progress.
Guns must be kept cased at all times unless the range officer has given
permission to uncase your pistol.
There will be plenty of experienced athletes at the event who should be
able to offer friendly advice if you need it.
Above all, enjoy the day!
